Quality Cottages excited by new inland wave park plans

Industry: Travel & Leisure

An exciting new project could put North Wales at the top of the UK’s list of surfing destinations outside the South West.

North Wales, UK (PRUnderground) April 14th, 2014

An exciting new project could put North Wales at the top of the UK’s list of surfing destinations outside the South West.

If the recently unveiled plans for Surf Snowdonia in Dolgarrog go ahead North Wales will become the first place in Britain to have an inland wave park and is likely to become a must visit destination for adrenaline junkies from across the country.

And businesses in the area are excited by the potential of the project, which appears to be moving forward quickly.

With a contract signed with one of the world’s leading inland wave park designers, Spanish company Wavegarden, work could start before the end of Spring.

Hayley Gerry, marketing manager for Quality Cottages’ 300 cottages in Wales, says that’s fantastic news for North Wales.

“The project is incredibly exciting,” she said. “The designs for the park that I’ve seen look incredible and I’m sure hundreds of thousands of land locked surfers across Britain will be even more excited than I am.”

Hayley said the park could benefit businesses throughout the area.

“Once this park is built people will undoubtedly start travelling to the area in greater numbers than they already do,” she said. “Those people will need places to stay, places to eat and things to do when they’re not in the water.”

Although the move will put North Wales on the map for may surfers who hadn’t considered visiting the area before it’s not an entirely new area for extreme sports fans.

Wakeboarding festival Wakestock takes place in the area each year and regularly sees Abersoch holiday cottages fill up, while Rhosneigr on Anglesey is a hugely popular destination for windsurfers and kite surfers.

“North Wales is already firmly on the map for thrill seekers and this new project just adds to that,” said Hayley.

With Conwy Adventure Leisure, which is behind the project, already having reportedly already paid a first instalment to Wavegarden the park could be open by next summer and Hayley’s looking forward to seeing the influx of visitors that’s likely to bring.

“We love to see people visiting Wales, enjoying themselves and falling in love with the country,” she said. “Whether that’s because of beautiful scenery, the peaceful environment or a new inland wave park, we’re just looking forward to seeing more people enjoying themselves in North Wales.

About Quality Cottages

History

We are a Welsh family business started 50 years ago, specialising in Quality cottages in Wales. Leonard Rees inherited Cerbid farm at the age of 17, then came out of farming 10 years later by converting the farm buildings into cottages. For nearly 20 years there was a small portfolio of the Cerbid cottages plus a small sample of other nearby cottages. In 1979 the late program ”Wish You Were Here” came to Cerbid to do a feature. The high demand for our cottages after this was the inspiration needed to grow into a larger agency. Soon after, we won Wales’s first Gold award for self-catering tourism.Since the early years we have grown to a pan Wales agency specialising at the Quality property Wales has to offer. We have had the privilege of working with many beautiful properties and their owners.During the 1980\\\\’s we also established a French agency, Quality Villas. You can visit their site by clicking www.qualityvillas.com. Quality Villas now also have property in Italy, Morocco and in ski resorts in the Alps. We have always and will continue to attract a high standard of property with caring owners. Our local team members live and breathe Wales. We have an accumulated knowledge of Wales, its geography and history second to none. There is always someone to hand to help with answers and solutions to questions. In 2011 there are now 30 of us in the team, we have a paternal approach to employment, putting the needs of people first. We feel this has a positive effect on health, happiness, and profit. 17 of the team have been here more than 10 years, Erene has been here for 40 years! Margaret Rees and son Tim Rees have also re-joined the company with pockets full of fresh ideas to take us, hopefully, through the next 50 years.

50 years experience

Over 50 years ago we started letting farmhouses, cottages and our converted old farm buildings at Cerbid, in an area where my family have farmed for nearly 400 years. Cerbid is a tiny private hamlet on the centre of the St. Davids/Solva peninsula which enjoys some of the finest coastline in Britain. Our office is also located here at Cerbid. As letting agents we now represent properties in selected areas of Wales.

Philosophy

Specialise in Quality not Quantity. We accept only 1 or 2 cottages out of every 10 offered. Behave always with Honesty and Integrity. From selection to descriptions of the holiday homes and communication with the customer. (That’s not to say we don’t make mistakes, but we will always act fairly to fix things quickly.)
