Sponsorship by leading genealogist firm Finders ensured that the hard work and success of women solicitors throughout the UK was celebrated this year, as the official sponsors of the prestigious 2010 Association of Women Solicitors (AWS) Annual Awards.

The Awards, which took place at the Law Society in London, on Thursday 9th September, were first established in 2009 to recognise and reward women solicitors who have contributed outstanding work in their field. The AWS was delighted to mark Finders’ sponsorship with a new category, to recognise the achievements of women working within the field of probate practice.

Despite many worthy candidates, the AWS managed to whittle down the strong competitors to announce the following solicitors as winners for their respective categories:

• Best Woman Solicitor Managing a Probate Practice
Jenny Pierce of Wards Solicitors, Bristol.

• Highly Commended Woman Solicitor Managing a Probate Practice
Carole Hope Murray of Beith Murray, Edinburgh

• Promising Woman Solicitor Managing a Probate Practice
Anna Coakes of Rochman Landau, London

• Best Woman Solicitor Managing a Large Practice
Liz Buchan of Watson Farley Williams, London

• Best Woman Solicitor Managing a Medium-sized Practice
Elaine Chapman of Weightmans, London

• Best Woman Solicitor Managing a Small Practice

• Highly Commended Woman Solicitor Managing a Small Practice
Collen Gostick of Buckles Solicitors, Peterborough

• Promising Woman Solicitor Managing a Small Practice

Pam Kenworthy of Howells Direct, Sheffield

• Highly Commended Woman Solicitor Managing a Legal Aid Practice
Jennifer Beck of TV Edwards, London

• Best Woman Solicitor Retaining and Developing Legal Talent

The bar was certainly raised this year, as more women solicitors entered the competition, striving for best practice regardless of age or status and inspiring other woman to demand the best of themselves and their profession. Finders are fully committed to supporting the goals of the AWS and recognise the important role that women make as leading practitioners in legal services.

The winner of each category will go on as nominees for the high profile Association of Women Solicitors/ Legal Business Woman of the Year Award 2010, to be presented at The Law Society Excellence Awards on 21st October.

Simone Llewellyn Deputy Managing Director of Finders said

“Finders is proud to have sponsored this year’s AWS Awards, and we were particularly pleased to see the Awards recognise the importance of probate work in the legal profession. The excellence of Finders reputation and high standards of service, meant that we had a natural partnership with a highly regarded organisation such as the AWS awards and we are proud to congratulate all the category winners and entrants who are achieving such success in legal practice.”

Christl Hughes Chairwoman of the AWS said
