More than a decade ago, Ron Holt hired two part-time employees and opened his doors to homeowners along the Gulf of Mexico in Pensacola, FL. Since then, the business has grown from its humble roots into one of the industry’s most admired brands; with dozens of locations spanning across most of the southeastern United States.
“I can still remember sitting inside my tiny 250 square foot office. Those were some scary days because everything was so new to me,” said Ron Holt, CEO and Founder of Two Maids & A Mop. “I had to learn how to hire, how to train and how to get the phone to ring all on my own. It wasn’t easy and it took me several years to figure it out.”
Fortunately, he had the benefit of time because it took him nearly two years before his new business was able to pay all of its bills on a regular basis. Of course, most small business owners can’t sustain operations for that long since many are bootstrapped operations. So Ron decided to offer free, practical advice for people getting started in the residential cleaning industry by launching the cleaning industry’s first-ever online television station. The online television station is called CleaningBusinessTV.com.
“I enjoy the game of business so offering free advice to people interested in running a cleaning business comes natural for me,” said Holt. “We’re going to talk about some basic issues such as effective house cleaning tips but we’ll also dig deep and discuss difficult issues such as legal liability, insurance requirements and payroll management. Consider the TV station a weekly seminar that will save both time and money for a cleaning business owner.”
Each episode is approximately 20 minutes long and is co-hosted by the Vice-President of Operations at Two Maids & A Mop, David Luke. Both Ron and David expect to bring in multiple surprise guests to keep the show fresh and entertaining. Weekly episodes will be aired live every Wednesday morning at 10 AM EST.
“We employ more than 150 people today and clean more than 300 homes per day. That’s a long way from our first day of just two employees and two customers. We hope that we’re able to teach someone how to avoid costly mistakes and how to create a dominant cleaning business for any market across the country,” said Holt.
Last year, Two Maids & A Mop was recognized by Inc. Magazine as the fastest growing cleaning company in America. And this year, the company announced an aggressive plan to begin providing immediate franchise opportunities across all 48 states. The company has already sold several territories and at least five new locations are expected to open this year.
Ron is thankful that he was able to endure the difficult early days more than eleven years ago. “Times are good today and I’m fortunate to have been able to endure everything from natural disasters to economic downturns,” said Holt. The road to financial success for a cleaning business is windy, bumpy and crowded. My hope is that CleaningBusinessTV.com will create more start-up success stories within the cleaning industry!”
