Brooklyn non-profit organization launches rites of passage program to help young community members succeed in future academic, social and economic endeavors

Brooklyn, New York (PRUnderground) November 30th, 2015

It is no secret that various neighborhoods in Brooklyn such as Crown Heights lack the resource centers and facilities of other neighborhoods which help to build character and foster a strong sense of community- particularly amongst its youth. Family and youth clubs such as the YMCA offer its community members the exposure they need to lead balanced; acculturated lives and compete on level playing fields. In the absence of these kinds of institutions, oftentimes youth spend much of their ‘free time’ in the streets; not necessarily enjoying a quality life.

DOK1With the underserved population in mind, Jacqueline Greaves, Youth-Co-Pastor of The Beulah Church of the Nazarene announced the launch of her year-long rites of passage program entitled ‘Daughters of The King of Kings’ (DOK2) for females between the ages of 13-19 in the Crown Heights community. The program will begin on January 2, 2016 at Beulah Church and run for one complete year.

Greaves- having grown up in Brooklyn and completed her educational training in the borough- is fully aware of the challenges that youth face when there is a diminished amount of quality programs and activities for the younger generation. Greaves accredits her many accomplishments –past and present – to the guidance and mentoring provided by her grandmother as she made it her business to enroll young Greaves in the youth ministry program at Beulah Church- which she has been spearheading for the past nine years with her husband Rodney.

For over eight years Greaves served as the Youth President of Beulah Church and is now the leading voice behind the group. Her strong connection with the youth is what ultimately led her to the formation of Daughters of The King of Kings. The DOK2 program is designed to help young females realize their potential by obtaining practical information about the whole person: Spirit, Soul and Body. Students of DOK2 can expect creative; interactive lessons taught by community leaders which are centered around the DOK2 “Seven Pillars” curriculum:

Purpose, Decorum, Community Service, Wisdom, Chastity, Integrity & Excellence

In order to gain the support of the Crown Heights community, Greaves in conjunction with Beulah Church of the Nazarene, will be holding an information/recruitment session on December 5, 2015 to answer questions, accept applications and meet and greet students, constituents and staff members. Interested applicants are being asked to bring a $25 application fee to the meeting for immediate consideration.

BeulahLogo-1Beulah Church has been a fixture in its Crown Heights community for over 90 years and is excited to continue to ‘roll out’ initiatives which help youth redefine their paths, meet and reach personal and educational goals; while working to become tomorrow’s influencers.

DOK2 is currently seeking 20 young females from its community to join the movement to help young women live their best lives. Greaves believes that the program will help to establish and reinforce the importance of positive relationships and a healthy spiritual foundation. The ultimate goal of DOK2 is for its students – upon completion of the program- to enroll in their Mentor Program and continue a lifestyle of service to others- which will essentially build a mutually beneficial partnership amongst DOK2, its community and city.

The DOK2 information session and recruitment event will be held on December 5, 2015 at Beulah Church of The Nazarene, located at 1250 St Johns Pl, Brooklyn, NY 11213 between 10am – 12pm. The event is open to media. For more information on the Daughters of the King of Kings program or to apply, please contact Jacqueline Greaves via phone at (347) 834-1376.
