I WANT TO SING OPERA is the hilarious and touching story of a tea lady with a huge singing talent. Who is she really? Why is she not a professional singer? She should! What’s her story? What is she hiding?
The most famous opera arias ever will be performed in I WANT TO SING OPERA, including: Nessun Dorma, Che Gelida Manina, Libiam (Brindisi, the Toast by Verdi), Madam Butterfly, Tosca, Barber of Seville (the Bravo Figaro aria), and a few surprises including even a pop song…
The true backstage life will be revealed, as never seen before: the reality of being a professional singer, the total dedication to music, the egomaniac traps of musical careers.
From an idea by Li Li, I WANT TO SING OPERA is written by Li Li and Stephen Tiller – the veteran director of successful and meaningful plays including The Vagina Monologues and Finding Butterfly. Stephen Tiller is also the director of I WANT TO SING OPERA.
The cast features the soprano Li Li herself. Li Li is an international singer who had the honour to sing for Andrea Bocelli (who accompanied her on the piano!), reach the Top20 USA Billboard’s charts singing as an unorthodox duo with legendary actor Sir Christopher Lee, and sing on international TV several times. On a different vest, Li Li is also the co-creator of the major London event FestivalAsia.
The tenor is Edward Hughes and the baritone is Victor Sgarbi – two international singers with outstanding voices and a true acting talent. The pianist is the flamboyant Richard Lennox, a classical pianist who's as well at ease playing rock or Liberace!
The actor impersonating the manager is Stephen Tiller himself, in a rare opportunity to see him acting. Although Mr Tiller is by now mainly a successful director, he has earlier on acted for over 15 years with the likes of Stephen Daldry, Vanessa Redgrave, Danny Boyle amongst others.
