FINANCIAL ADVISOR TO OFFER HARD-WON INSIGHTS AT HALINA FOUNDATION CHARITY EVENT. Janice Goldman Picker to speak at The Halina Foundation Silent Auction & Fashion Show. Alhambra Palace 6pm, April 18 to will raise money in support of Vida Dubinskiene.

Chicago, IL (PRUnderground) April 3rd, 2015

Janice Goldman Picker, the keynote speaker at Halina Foundation’s upcoming Silent Auction & Fashion Show, knows something about hard times, although you wouldn’t guess it to look at her. At 63, she has the energy of fizz and pixie dust. “I look better now than I’ve ever looked,” she says, which is piece and parcel of the never-too-late message underlying her personal financial consultancy and speaking engagements.

As in—it’s never too late to fall in love.

Or—it’s never too late to take ownership of your finances.

Goldman approaches these topics with a rare authority. She remarried at 58 (“to the best man I know!”) and only six years ago started her own business, a financial advisory practice that specializes in women facing a personal setbacks, whether in love or life or health. On that subject as well, Goldman speaks from hard-earned experience.

She describes a holiday season thirty years ago with a single horrible sentence—“I became pregnant with twin sons on Thanksgiving, and my husband passed away five weeks later”—but that is not her story so much as the prologue. The story was thirty years of her nose to the grindstone, making every effort to provide for her children so they would not suffer as a result of their circumstances.

The lessons she learned—to replace fear with action, to not waste her energies on melancholy, to plunge forward in pursuit of her own aims—are not idle chicken-soup morals but the insights of thirty years that led Goldman to peace, serenity and, yes, looking better than she ever has.

“I don’t know how you can do it on your own.”

Goldman’s sympathy for cancer sufferers and their loved ones—her husband died of complications associated with his chemotherapy cycles—combined with her professional experience helping women overcome challenges made her partnership with cancer-fighting charity organization Halina Foundation an easy fit.

“Community means everything,” says Goldman. “To have other people who are there for you, to keep your energy up, to keep you from falling into victim mode, to keep you strong and inspired—I think it’s everything.”

The Halina Foundation Silent Auction & Fashion Show, held at Chicago’s Alhambra Palace at 6pm on April 18, will raise money in support of Vida Dubinskiene, a La Grange woman diagnosed with breast cancer two days before New Years’ Eve 2015.
