Gary Tonjes, Albuquerque Economic Development Guru sees Growth Ahead says Construction Reporter

Tonjes sees Albuquerque's current lackluster economy as potentially boosted with a larger marketing budget to get the word out about the city

Albuquerque, NM (PRUnderground) June 9th, 2015

Tonjes sees Albuquerque’s current lackluster economy as potentially boosted with a larger marketing budget to get the word out about the city, and State of  New Mexico’s unique assets. “If we had access to more resources, we believe we could enhance our image and familiarize more people with our state and the benefits of doing business here,” the 20 + year director of the Albuquerque Economic Development nonprofit says.

Tonjes claims Albuquerque has made “dramatic improvements to its tax and regulatory climate” as well as more robust incentives over the past few years, saying that has attracted the interest of outside firms to invest in the state.

Though Nevada ended up winning the coveted contract with Tesla Motors, Tonjes believes the publicity surrounding Albuquerque’s bid drew attention to the city for other potential busiinesses.  He also sees Innovate Albuquerque as a boon for the city, and also an attractor of positive national attention.

“I love everything about this initiative, which has energized our community,” says Tonjes. “The entrepreneurial spirit here is very much alive, and the myriad of players involved and the multi-faceted programs launched or refined have this place buzzing.”
