Gary Goodman Urges New Mexico To Step Up As Water Management Leader says Construction Reporter

Industry: Real Estate

Goodman Realty Group's green redevelopment projects--award-winning Hotel Andaluz and Winrock Mall--set state and national standards for water and energy conservation.

A candid interview by Construction Reporter’s Tami Brunk with Gary Goodman of Goodman Realty Group, the “premiere green developer of the southwest” reveals Goodman’s vision for New Mexico, where cutting edge research into water and energy technologies are promoted and developed into the state’s leading industry.

Goodman Realty Group’s reboot of Hotel Andaluz gave it the coveted designation of Gold LEED historic hotel–one of only two in the nation.  The iconic Winrock Mall is under massive redevelopment by the firm, and is projected to feature extensive photovoltaics, an electric trolley, an on-site farm store sourced by 30 acres of gardens and orchards, and a pond fed by rainwater and recycled water.

Goodman feels strongly that New Mexico should be leading the region, if not the world, in water resource management.

“When we’re getting together and talking about how to deal with the droughts we’re having, the meetings should be held in Albuquerque.  We should lead our region.  When California wants to solve their water problems, they should come to Albuquerque.  The number one growth industry in the world is water management,” Goodman says.

He feels that if the six primary communities in New Mexico sat at the same table and devised a pathway forward, his vision could become a reality.  Those communities would be the tribes, non-profit sector, business sector, political sector, Universities, and Sandia/Los Alamos Labs.
