The city of Bath is well known as a hotspot for the Arts and culture, offering a plethora of events, exhibitions and festivals throughout the year. Many people plan their visit early to Bath during the festival season, securing one of the central hotels in Bath for the ideal base for their holiday of weekend break.

May is shaping up to be a particularly busy period, with many festivals and events being scheduled. One such event well worth visiting for is the annual Bath International Music Festival, running from 30 May – 10 June.

The International Music Festival sees a whole host of acts and artists being staged for this fantastic array of musical celebrations at various venues throughout the city during the fortnight. This year will be offering music from a range genres such as classical, world music, contemporary, folk, electronica and international jazz to name just a few; with many shows offering free-to-the-public events.

This year the Bath International Music Festival with see the staging of the UK premiere of Vivaldi’s supremely magical and rarely performed opera, L’Olimpiade. This is sure to be a great way to enjoy the opening of the fantastic festival whilst enjoying this sublime performance.

Still on the musical theme, May 12 sees a very special concert being held at the Bath Abbey.  Entitled ‘A Joyful Jubilee’, it’s a celebration of English music for brass and voices, performed by the Bath Choral Society. The event has been designed as a celebration for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. Here you will be able to enjoy a range of both new and old favourites from composers like Handel, Bob Chilcott and Wesley.
