Consultant Lisa Logan facilitated the path toward LEED certification, and says she enjoyed working with the congregation, which prides itself on its green values.

“This was my favorite project, because of the synergy of the process.  This is how LEED is supposed to work.”  She helped the team identify and claim credits from the design of the surrounding UU campus, including wildlife habitat surrounding the building, extensive PV on existing buildings, and deliberate conservation measures practiced by the congregation.

Credits were also gained by donating half the existing parking spots to the building footprint, and increasing the number of spaces for the congregation’s multitude of fuel-efficient cars.

Green features of this Net Zero building include a high efficiency mechanical systems, low flow toilets in the bathrooms, lights that turn on and off automatically, low VOC paints and sealers, shades with a sun sensor, and 100 percent of water captured on site and filtered through a basin and catchment area.
