Evolutionists, Creationists Debate ‘Ida’ and Evidence of Missing Links in New Free Think U Course

Industry: Education

The modern theory of evolution presupposes intermediate forms of life between the established species. What is the evidence for these intermediate forms of life?

The modern theory of evolution presupposes intermediate forms of life between the established species. What is the evidence for these intermediate forms of life? Free Think University’s new course experience “Have We Found Some Missing Links?” gives insight into this question from varying schools of thought and challenges readers to form their own conclusions.

Stephen J. Gould is one professor who spent a lifetime working on this problem. In the course he notes that “Darwin’s argument still persists as the favored escape of most paleontologists from the embarrassment of a record that seems to show so little of evolution. In exposing its cultural and methodological roots, I wish in no way to impugn the potential validity of gradualism…. I wish only to point out that it was never ‘seen’ in the rocks.”

The course presents the claim that many transitional forms have been found in the fossil record as well as its counter-claim. The recently discovered “Ida” is used as an example of how the diverging opinions are formed and defended.

The course presents several video clips to help answer this question and others: What would explain the various races of humans? How would natural selection produce such variation? What other explanation might fit better?

The course features an article by Brian Thomas and Frank Sherwin from the Institute for Creation Research to explain the Creationist perspective about Ida and other missing links. “This fossil is not as close to monkeys, apes, and humans as we are being led to believe,” Sherwin reports.

“Free Think University seeks to produce thoughtful course experiences responding to questions posed from our students,” noted co-founder Jim Van Eerden. “No matter your perspective, it is important to hear both sides of an argument to form a well-reasoned response, including one’s views about macro-evolutionary theory.”
