The festival starts on the 2nd of August each year and as per tradition begins with the singing of a traditional Pollencan folk song known as an Alborado. The highlight of the regional celebrations is the mock battle that takes place during the evening on the first night. The battle is a re-enactment of a historical event that took place back in 1550 when a group of villagers from Pollensa had to hold back an attack by invading pirates. Much of Pollensa’s folklore and traditional songs contain references to the person who united the island’s sleeping villagers and eventually fought off the invading pirates, Joan Mas.

So along with plenty of live music, dancing, great food and drink, you will find the villagers in their pyjamas with painted faces celebrating Pollenca’s rich culture and history during the night long fiesta!
