Vivrer is a new web app that just launched which aims to destroy the phone number by attaching a call address to your identity and not a device. The website works by allowing you to choose a username which is transformed into a call address and anyone you share your call link to, can call you from any device connected to the web.
Vivrer’s founder, Michael Nana describes the app itself as “the easiest and best way to stay in contact with your friends and family” also allows you to make quick and free calls to anyone of your choice. “Our goal is to allow people to create an easy call address that they can share to the people of their choice and thus be contacted through their call address from any device connected to the web.
The caller doesn’t have to be a Vivrer user and the receiver can receive the call on any device that is connected to the web. We want to change phone numbers the way e-mail changed post mail.” says Vivrer’s founder. “Various other video chat companies require all communication to be only done by users of their website, however that in our opinion is not real communication. It’s just a gated community” Vivrer founder further adds.
Vivrer also has some other neat features like easy on the fly group video chats called kickbacks. You start one, post the link on facebook or twitter and up to 4 of your friends can join the kickback just by a click of the link. Vivrer also has a feature called quick calls that allows users to easily set up disposable video calls with anybody of their choice.
The app uses a new technology called WebRTC which is a browser protocol that allows modern browser to communicate between each other allow for video, audio and file transfer. This allows users to use Vivrer without having to install anything and in crystal clear HD quality.
The company also plans on to build native mobile apps in the near future to make it much more easier to stay connected and in contact across devices.
