Hotels report record bookings for weddings and special events on 12-13-14, the last sequential calendar date until January 2, 2034. While many locations may be taken, there are many “fish in the sea” and hotels from Newport to Naples offer wedding options that are both creative and affordable. From an underwater wedding to a beach ceremony, couples can secure a cool date and hot location to tie the knot with rates starting at $1499.
“In addition to it being a Saturday, the date is memorable. We have had a lot of requests for weddings and events for 12-13-14,” reported Marlen Scalzi of Hotel Viking in Newport, Rhode Island. “Our wedding chapel, our ballrooms and our event space is completely booked. Couples are getting creative and looking for unique spots, like museums, to have their wedding and then return to Hotel Viking for their wedding night stay.” Newport Art Museum, Newport Vineyards, Fort Adams and even the Tennis Hall of Fame are some locations in Rhode Island that happily help couples tie the knot.
Lemon Tree Inn of Naples, Florida is used to helping couples think outside of the box as the boutique hotel does not have wedding or event space. “The beach is always a popular option,” said Sid Kalmans, owner of Lemon Tree Inn in Naples, and Hotel Caravelle in St. Croix, “But for an added twist we suggest tying the knot aboard a sailing charter or at Naples Botanical Gardens, which offers multiple wedding spots.”
Hotel Caravelle, the waterfront boutique hotel on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, offers a very unique twist: an underwater wedding package for $1499 which includes accommodations, two dives, marriage services performed by Captain Ed Buckley, a candle light dinner, a choice of a sailing or island tour and more.
“The options increase when couples go to their hometown courthouse for the legal documents and have the symbolic ceremony on-site,” said Hilary Lanzer of AskMeInc, a destination wedding company, “Then it is all about location, location, location.”
Mexico and the Caribbean are among the most popular locations for destination weddings. In Cancun as well as in the Dominican Republic, Paradisus Resorts offers a selection of wedding packages including the Fantasy wedding package starting at $1500, which includes the ceremony, bouquet and boutonnière, a one-hour cocktail party and more.
With the island of Aruba and the Riviera Maya region of Mexico being very popular wedding destinations, couples can look to more unique destinations including Costa Rica, Cozumel, and the Dominican Republic, where Occidental Hotels & Resorts has all-inclusive beach resorts including Allegro Papagayo, Royal Hideaway Playacar and Occidental Grand. Occidental offers the Simple Love wedding package starting at $1499. The Simple Love package, designed for up to ten guests, includes a beach wedding, cake and sparkling wine for the wedding toast. For larger weddings, couples can select from six wedding packages that the award-winning resort collection offers to couples.
