Danbury Urgent Care Center uses Youtube and Online Services to Connect to the Danbury Community
Doctors Express, Danbury’s first urgent care walk in clinic, connects and offers services online and off to patients and Danbury community.

Only 1 month in, Doctors Express Danbury is setting the pace in the medical community on innovative ways to enhance relationships and to further connect with patients and the healthcare community.
Instead of competing with the hospital emergency room, Doctors Express Danbury, which opened to the public on March 23, has made it it’s mission to compliment and work alongside Danbury Hospital, to offer patient services that will free up the hospital to focus on life and death emergencies, hence shortening the emergency room wait time. It is doing the same with the area primary care doctors and specialists with the addition of on staff Community Engagement Director Kristy Gentile.
By presenting itself as a part of the community triage rather than the competition, the urgent care center is creating value not just to the patients it welcomes but to the Greater Danbury community at large.
Other innovative and connecting ways they are reaching out include:
- Real time community health alerts, such as flu warnings, communicated as well as timely seasonal reminders for things such as sports, school and camp physicals, blood pressure screenings, flu shots. Communicated via email, e newsletters, Twitter and Facebook.
- Healthcare Education, available services, and healthcare informational video’s on their YouTube channel and website, so that patients can not only get to know the Medical Director Dr. Tom Brown, but can get comfortable with him prior to meeting him, an online meet and greet with the staff and more relevant video’s, Dr. Brown’s Medical Minute, which will unroll over the coming year.
- On-line Check-in to help cut down further on wait time. 10 minutes or more can be spent on paperwork related to registration. Doctors Express has a goal of getting patients in and out in 45 minutes and pre-registering can reduce that time even further.
Both owner Tom Kelly and Medical Director Dr. Thomas Brown are excited to be exploring how these online ways of communicating will improve not just the efficiency of their urgent care center, but intensify their relationships with the community as a whole.
“The intention is not to replace personal interaction,” says Kelly, “Quite the contrary. We are hoping to break down barriers and enhance the doctor-patient experience in ways not seen before while bringing significant efficiency and accessibility to the process.”
When the new guy comes to town and chooses to compliment existing services rather than compete, to reach out to the community rather than put up a bigger sign, chooses to hire a community outreach person to see how the community and surrounding businesses can work together rather than slash prices and undercut the competition, chooses to enhance the community rather than enhance their pockets, that is a differentiator that will prove to be a win-win for both the community, the patients and the practice.
