CloudZoom announces the addition of VirtualBoxes.org virtual appliances to it’s virtual appliance marketplace. The CloudZoom marketplace provides a simple, fast, and convenient way to find virtual appliances spanning multiple vendors and hypervisors. CloudZoom is combining the silos of unique, vendor specific and hypervisor specific catalogs, into a virtual appliance supermarket. According to CloudZoom, this is the first of many partnerships and site improvements planned for this year. “We’re working hard to bring more appliances and more services to our CloudZoom users with the goal of being the world’s premier virtual appliance community,” says one of the CloudZoom founders.
With thousands of visitors since their launch on March 1st, CloudZoom has identified gaps in their listings. According to CloudZoom, “The first gap we need to fill is support for VirtualBox based appliances. A large percentage of our users are looking for VirtualBox desktop based virtual appliances.” The partnership between CloudZoom and VirtualBoxes.org is designed to solve this problem. The VirtualBoxes.org mission is to provide users from around the world with popular and niche VirtualBox virtual images based on free and/or open-source operating systems. With their minimalist approach, users have the ability to configure the images to meet their specific needs. Instructions for commonly performed configurations are available on the VirtualBoxes.org site.
The CloudZoom library has over one thousand (1000+) virtual appliances available today, with more on the way. CloudZoom provides a user-friendly interface for browsing and filtering the library of appliances. It is possible to browse or filter by vendor, operating system, software package, or price, helping to quickly find the appliance that meets the user’s needs. Each virtual appliance summary page includes, but is not limited to, information on price, operating system, installed software, usernames and passwords, and configured memory and disk sizes.
VirtualBoxes.org is a joint effort supported by five team members spread across the globe. Their mission is to provide as many VirtualBox virtual images as possible. Currently, they have 50+ virtual machine images available.
