Los Angeles, CA (PRUnderground) September 17th, 2013

Adding to her list of credits for Grammy Award winning composer Lorne Balfe, violinist and cellist Christine Wu can now be heard on the haunting score for SALINGER.

The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on Decca became available September 3rd at all digital partners including iTunes, followed by a physical release on September 17th.  SALINGER, a Weinstein Company film directed by Shane Salerno, opened in theatres on September 6th.   The companion Simon & Schuster book, SALINGER, was released September 3rd.

Additional Lorne Balfe projects completed by Wu include The Frozen Ground, The Bible, Assasin’s Creed, Spyro, and Blackwood. Wu was also violin and cello soloist for Bryce Dallas and Ron Howard’s short When You Find Me.

Commenting on Balfe’s compositional style for strings, Wu says, “big, lush chords that change with his own style of voicing and harmonic rhythm, which to me gives a certain tension, mystery, and release. It’s unique to his style and also very beautiful.”

Wu recalls her work on the Salinger score as an intense and evolving process.

“There was a lot of passion that went into it. I got the feeling of how much angst there might be in this movie because it was very intense. I had to take breaks and stick my head out the window to see sunlight.

“We started working on it in 2011 and even within that we made a lot of changes and the project got bigger and bigger and as the director changed things we kept adding music and then it really became bigger because it got more distribution. We were working around the clock to get it recorded and so it’s really great to see the success so much later.”

A violinist since age 3, Wu made the risky decision in 2006 to leave her tenured position with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, to pursue a career in the recording, television, and film industry. She has since become solo violinist and cellist for David Foster and Paul Anka, and has composed, arranged, and performed strings with a long and diverse list of A-list musical artists, including Beyoncé, Celine Dion, A.R. Rahman, Bono, and Kiss.

Christine Wu is also a composer, filmmaker, and ballerina. Her production company, Premium Content Productions, is currently seeking distribution for her musical film short 2nd Drawer, recently featured on PBS. Also in production is a music video for her song Always Believe, sung by Billy Ray Cyrus with dancing and choreography by Ethan and Nikki White.
