Chapplicator: The Fastest and Easiest Way to Apply Lip Balm

With the colder weather comes snow. And that means a new season for skiing and snowboarding. Those cold temperatures also bring the burden of chapped lips. Bill Murray (No not THAT Bill Murray) has developed a device to easily fight off chapped lips and look good while doing so. “I started skiing in January of 2009 and fell in love with it. However I hated how badly chapped my lips got. I always had lip balm on me; however it was not convenient to apply. I would constantly lose it, and on the really cold days, I did not want to take off my gloves to do so. I love to create things so I decided to find an efficient way to keep my lips from chapping, AND keep my hands warm at the same time.”

Chapplicator is a durable, yet relatively simple device. It consists of two pieces. The bottom piece connects to your helmet using a super strong and weather proof adhesive. The top holds a tube of your favorite lip balm, and slides effortlessly onto the bottom piece. The two pieces stay closed together using strong magnets so while on the slopes, you can go hard, but keep your lips soft! Murray’s innovative 2-piece design allows you to grab your lip balm with your gloves on! No more cold hands and fumbling to hold onto your lip balm!

“I originally came up with several concepts. The goal: Create a device that will hold a tube of lip balm that I can easily access and apply, know where it is at all times, and most importantly apply without taking off my gloves. My first few ideas could attach to my coat collar, gloves, and even ski poles. None of those seemed to solve my problem the way I wanted them to. It was then I decided to make a device that attaches to my helmet. After several uses during my trips to Steamboat Springs and Telluride, I felt I finally came up with a simple solution to a common problem” explains Murray.

How can you get your hands on a Chapplicator? “We will be launching a Kickstarter campaign in January 2015 to help with tooling and manufacturing. As well as give us the ability to create a bunch of really cool color combinations to match anybody’s outfit, skis, or board” said Murray.
