A Shingles Outbreak Can Lead to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS); CBCD Reviews the Medical Evidence

After a herpes zoster (shingles) outbreak, individuals are at twice the risk of developing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). (1) Some studies show that the varicella zoster virus, which causes shingles, may also be the cause of CFS. “Infection of the peripheral ganglia causes at least some cases of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), with a neurotropic herpesvirus, particularly varicella-zoster virus (VZV).” (2) Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a complex disorder accompanied by unexplainable persistent fatigue (tired and weak all the time), in which several etiological factors exist, such as latent viral infections. The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) recommends that individuals infected with VZV take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR. The CBCD therefore urges everyone infected with a latent virus, such as the varicella zoster virus (VZV), the human papillomavirus (HPV), the Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1 and HSV-2), the cytomegalovirus (CMV, and more to learn about Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR.  The formula of Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The studies showed that the Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR formula is effective against the HPV, HSV-1, HSV-2, EBV and other viruses. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with the (HPV, HSV-1, HSV-2, EBV, and other viruses)…reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with Gene-Eden-VIR.” (3) The study authors also wrote that, “We observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (3)

Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin are natural antiviral dietary supplements. Their formula contains five natural ingredients: Selenium, Camellia Sinesis Extract, Quercetin, Cinnamomum Extract, and Licorice Extract. The first ingredient is a trace element, and the other four are plant extracts. Each ingredient and its dose was chosen through a scientific approach. What Dr. Shapiro means, is that when the latent VZV infects the nerves, individuals can experience long term loss of memory or concentration, feeling unrefreshed after sleep, muscle pain, headaches, multi-joint pain without redness or swelling, and a frequent sore throat.

Dr. Shapiro continued, writing that “infections of the peripheral ganglia are known to cause long-term nerve dysfunction, which would help explain the chronic course of CFS. Herpesviruses have long been suspected as the cause of CFS; this theory has recently been supported by studies showing that administering antiherpes agents causes substantial improvement in some CFS patients.” (2)

“Shingles is caused by the varicella zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. After a person recovers from chickenpox, the virus stays in the body in a dormant (inactive) (latent) state. For reasons that are not fully known, the virus can reactivate years later, causing shingles.” (4).

A recent post marketing clinical study published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs on August 12, 2013 showed that the Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin formula, which includes 5 natural ingredients, safely reduced viral symptoms (3).
