Martin Clunes confesses his affections for Delabole, close to Camelot Castle Cornwall Hotel.

Many people visit Cornwall for a quintessential Cornwall holiday in one of the delightful Cornwall hotels available. But for those of you whose interests are more keenly tuned in to the goings on of the much loved Doc Martin TV show, with its star actor Martin Clunes, will know that its filming is based from the picturesque fishing village of Port-Isaac.
Although Port Isaac is close to Mr Clunes heart, it is in fact, the large village of Delabole which has captured his attention. Delabole lies just one mile inland from the North Cornish coastline, ten minutes’ drive away from Tintagel. Martin Clunes will choose to spend his four month filming period in Delabole so that he is undisturbed by the rest of the cast and crew as he focuses on his lines.
Often accompanied by his wife and daughter too, the TV star adores the close-knit community. He said “It’s not picturesque like Port Isaac and it gets a lot of fog and rain, but I love Delabole,” he added. “I’ve never seen such a close-knit community.”
Clunes, who plays the on screen doctor on the series has found himself even diagnosing himself off screen recently when he became ill with a virus.
His wife Philippa Braithwaite, who is one of the show’s producers, answered “He thinks so”, when asked whether her husband had diagnosed his own illness. The Shakespeare in Love star confessed: “I’m all over it. I’m always interested in people’s treatments. I ask them, ‘What did they prescribe you?’ I love it when I get an operation – I even got to wear scrubs this season. I felt so heroic.
The actor lost a stone after the virus and required a new wardrobe for his role in the show. He told the Radio Times: “They had to remake my wardrobe to fit.”
