In northern Colorado, such as Morgan County, the oil and gas boom is driving the need for more hotels and motels, including the new Hampton Hotel, an upscale new 80 room, 5-story facility.  But it is a trend across the state, for numerous reasons.

“It’s everywhere, all different kinds of properties,” says Amie Mayhew, the president and CEO of the Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association.

“There was a drop-off due to the recession that lasted for several years,” says Mayhew. “But things started to significantly pick up around two years ago. And now we are seeing all kinds of projects going up in every section of the state.”

Westin Hotel is building a traditional hotel in Basalt, Colorado, and Love Enterprises is building a 60 room modest boutique hotel as well in this northwest Colorado town.

Denver has many new projects as well, with the two best known being the Gaylord Hotel near the International Airport, and the $544 million Westin Hotels and Resorts new hotel to also be constructed at the Airport.

The Westin Hotel will be part of the Hotel and Transit Center, and be linked into rail service to downtown Denver.

The Gaylord Hotel is one of the biggest hotel projects n the state, with 1500 rooms projected.  It has an estimated price tag of $800 million. It will have 400,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space and an indoor/outdoor recreation water park.
